Abstract :
The electromagnetic forces experienced by the end windings of induction machines during the transient current of a line starting circuit can be large enough to cause serious trouble if the windings are not supported properly. In this paper, Biot-Savart law and full 3-D finite element method are used and compared with the results by the two methods. The example results are provided by the methods with a 900 kW, 4 poles induction motor. These methods can also be useful to calculate the stray loss of end region more correctly.
