Abstract
The optimization between processing gain and the coding gain of a constant-bandwidth direct-sequence spread-spectrum system operating in the presence of either a tone jammer or a Gaussian jammer such that the bit-error rate P eb is minimized is presented. During the optimization, P eb is first tightly bounded by two functions, and then the dominant terms of these two bounds are used to obtain a simple indicator function for the determination of the optimum code. The indicator is tested and shown to yield good results
