Abstract
We present analysis and simulation results of the performance of an optical burst switching core-node. To simplify the implementation of the optical switch core, we construct a switching architecture by FDLs (fiber delay lines) and small-scale optical crossbars, without wavelength converters. Under the assumption that FDLs have infinite length and are able to be adjusted continuously, analytical results of the burst waiting time with Poisson arrivals can be derived. The simulation study of this case gives results close to the analytical one. We also simulated the real case, as FDLs have finite delay capability and can only be adjusted in steps. The performance degraded drastically in this case, caused by contention at the switch output ports.
