The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of how top performing new service development activities within knowledge intensive business services are implemented in Chinese context. Data were collected via questionnaires through face-to-face interviews with managers knowledgeable about new service development in their organization (sample size 192). Discriminant analysis was chosen to identify the factors that are responsible for top performing new service development activities. Our results imply that employee competence, formal NSD process, reputation and use of IT are central issues in the development of new knowledge intensive business service. This study outlines that the NSD management should perform to strategically leverage on these four antecedents of top performing NSD activities.
