Abstract
Summary form given only. A new version of the method of coupled waves has been developed. It allows us to analyze and calculate propagation of microwave pulses through smoothly irregular waveguides even in the case of walls with finite conductivity. The suggested theory is applied to calculating wave converters in the form of curved waveguides and waveguides with periodically corrugated walls. We provide an example of calculating the compression of pulses with modulated frequency in corrugated waveguides and reflected pulses in smoothly narrowing waveguides containing cut-off sections. It is shown that the conversion of transverse structure of pulses is possible during their compression.
