Abstract
An absolute moment block truncation coding digital pulse code modulation (AMBTC-DPCM)-quad-tree hybrid image data compression method to further compress the data generated by the AMBTC algorithm is presented. In this method, the image is first preprocessed. The AMBTC algorithm is then used. Each image block is classified as either a smooth block or an edge block. The smooth block is represented by its block mean. The bit plane of the edge block is represented by a quad-tree. The block mean is compressed by DPCM. While preserving almost the same image quality as normal AMBTC, data compression of about 10:1 has been achieved
