Abstract :
Distribution system engineers have frequently to choose among different solutions under problem data uncertainty; in most cases related to modern distribution system components sizing, among the uncertainties, the ones deriving from the presence of static converters must be included. In these conditions, decision theory can offer efficient and valuable tools to choose the optimal solution. This paper refers to distribution electrical systems with static converters and considers three different approaches based on decision theory for the joint economical sizing of medium voltage cables and passive filters under uncertainty, properly accounting for harmonics due to non linear load presence. In the last part of the paper, the implementation and practical application of the sizing procedures are discussed and compared in a case study.
