Under the mass customization production mode, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to adopt postponement strategy to reduce business costs, respond more quickly to the market demand, and strengthen core competitiveness. The field research of 70 SMEs in Hubei Province shows the enforcement environment exerts a great impact on the effectiveness of postponement management. An unfavorable environment will probably bring such negative results as overstock, slow product updates, the increase of R&D costs. Therefore, it is suggested that SMEs should improve themselves in terms of product design, market environment and the cultivation of corporate culture so as to meet the requirements of implementing postponement management.
