Abstract :
The harmonic distortion of a Σ-Δ DAC due to the nonlinear analog components is investigated. The nonlinear long-term input-output characteristic is related to the short-term nonlinearities which appear within one clock period. Several DAC topologies are compared on a circuit level, and the harmonic distortion is expressed as a function of the circuit nonlinearities. A practical realization with 14-b accuracy for 16-MHz clock frequency is presented
