Abstract
The evolving personal communications network (PCN) will support services beyond mobile cellular telephony through the availability of personal communications terminals, which can be used in the home, in the office, or elsewhere. The universal personal telecommunications (UPT) service, an application of PCN, extends the association between the subscriber and the network by giving each subscriber a personal telecommunications number (PTN), which uniquely identifies a UPT subscriber. An overview of PCN architectures, PCN applications, and functionality evolution is given
