  • Abstract
    Limited and extremely expensive radio resources are the bottleneck of the system capacity in 3G WCDMA cellular PCN. This paper investigates call admission control (CAC) to improve the uplink spectral efficiency that is viewed as an interference management problem. By exploiting the "soft-capacity" feature and cell-interference distributions of CDMA systems, an effective and robust soft-decision CAC (SCAC) is proposed. Comparative study of CAC policies is presented to show the advantages of SCAC. Moreover, this paper provides a comprehensive analytical method for evaluating teletraffic performance of the cellular system supporting real-time and background non real-time services. This is based on stationary and quasi-stationary analysis of a state-dependent birth-death process. The results are important for optimizing overall system grade of service, Erlang capacity, and throughput
