Abstract
The trend in third-generation (3G) mobile systems is the handling of heterogeneous traffic, bandwidth flexibility, greater capacity and most important an efficient use of the spectrum. Therefore, if we use S-Aloha as request access channel (RACH) in a CDMA environment, it could be a good alternative for third-generation systems. For this reason, we show a stability analysis for S-Aloha considering a feedback channel and without the use of one. Not only do we take into account the stability but we also display additional interesting statistics concerning the traffic offered, the average delay and the number of stations in the backlog state. Based on the scenarios of the presence and absence of a feedback channel, we analyse the performance of each case, completing the analysis with complementary new proposals on the stability
