Abstract :
The design of a constant sidelobe compression filter for periodic sequences is presented. The response of the pulse compression filter to a periodic sequence is a central peak with constant sidelobe where the signal to noise ratio has been minimized. A design example, which demonstrates the performance of the filter for a periodic binary sequence with length 19, is given. If the loss in signal detectability is tolerable, the constant sidelobe approach enables the designer to make compromises between system sensitivity and the probability of detection error, and provides flexibility in the choice of usable code sequences
