Abstract
Dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) exciting a single mode of broadside radiation provides a gain of about 5 dBi. Here, directivity of the antenna and it corresponding gain is increased by staking more than one dielectric resonator on top of each others. Such arrangement acts such as the Yagi-Uda antenna. One director and two directors are used to enhance the antenna gain. The gain is increased by about 3.6 dBi in the case of two director antenna. Two methods of excitations are used. One is a probe excitation and the other is a narrow slot excitation. The two DRA antennas are machined and tested. In both cases, the antenna gain increases. Also, the matching bandwidth is increased by more than 10% over that of single DRA element.
