  • Abstract
This paper proposes a new rectangular horn with two orthogonal sidewall-taper sections for obtaining a dual-polarized elliptical-beam. To appropriately generate higher-order modes, one sidewall in each section has multiple-step configuration, and the other is uniform so that the mode-matching approach can be easily applied to an optimization design procedure. As a design example, we present a horn with -10 dB beamwidth of 33deg times 90deg at 9.5-10.5 GHz, and also discuss the return loss, the aperture-field distribution, and the radiation patterns of the designed horn. The effectiveness of the proposed horn is verified numerically and experimentally
