  • Abstract
Two shell precursor model was developed. Expressions for the maximum precursor current and precursor kinetic energy were obtained. Difference in the resistance of core and corona of the separate wire is the reason of precursor appearance. Precursor current increases sharply as the current rise time is lengthened. It is impossible to get a good implosion of wire array at the rise time more than 200 ns without special precautions. The most efficient way to suppress the precursor is to reduce the resistance of core. Axial magnetic field B, can be applied for small-precursor current. However, if the precursor carries a current of several mega-amps, its suppression is a challenge.
