Abstract
Image retrieval using 2-D string matching techniques and pairwise spatial relationships is reviewed. It is demonstrated that 2-D string matching techniques can be extended to three or more dimensions and could form the basis of query systems to retrieve data such as CAD information. Algorithms are developed for 3-D type 0, 1, and 2 matching, and an example is presented. The three matching types provide progressively more exacting matches ranging from objects presence to exact submodel match. The query system based on pairwise spatial relations is extended to describe 3-D information
