  • Abstract
We advocate in this paper the adoption of phase forward (PF) as a technique to overcome non-linear power amplifier distortion in two-way cooperative communication systems that employ PSK modulations. The performance of this new signal relay technique, measured in terms of the amount-of-fading (AoF) and bit-error-rate (BER), is analyzed and compared against a benchmark system that employs amplify-and-forward (AF) at the relay. It was discovered that not only is PF superior to AF when the amplifier at the relay is non-linear, it can also outperform AF when the amplifier is linear. The conclusion is reached PF is a useful alternative to existing signal forwarding techniques for two-way cooperative communication.
