Abstract :
The paper presents a time transmission method over optical fiber, designs a prototype device and tests its performance. The advantages of time transmitting over optical fiber are described in this paper. In a measurement period, the master node sends measurement data of second pulse into the STM-N optical interface by F1 overhead byte and receives them from the slave node. The slave node performs the same operation so they do a cycle data exchange. The slave one calculates the interactive time difference and does compensation. For ensuring better delay performance, the multiplexer (WDM) can be used to achieve single fiber bi-directional transmission. Tested data show that time transmission accuracy is 10 ns level. The technology can be used in military, aerospace, power, telecommunications and other fields.
