Abstract
Photonic crystals, that have an influence on wave propagation, are in a point of interest for several years. Despite of the fact that they have some similarities to semiconductors, modelling methods cannot be directly transferred since magnetic and electric fields are treated like vectors not scalars as it is in case of wave function in Schroedinger´s equation. There were created methods that can be divided into two groups. The first one is connected to calculation of dispersion properties of the photonic crystal, while the second one gives possibility to analyse wave propagation through photonic crystal. This paper shows the most commonly used methods of modelling photonic crystals: among other PWM, FDTD
