Abstract
The paper develops a dynamic induction machine model, appropriate for detuning studies in vector controlled induction machines, which includes a convenient stray load loss representation. Stray load loss, as a potential source of detuned operation of vector controlled induction machines, has never been studied before and the model presented here is the first step in that direction. It is important to note that, although vector controlled induction machines are supplied from PWM inverters, the relevant component of the stray load loss is only the one associated with the first harmonic of the supply voltage (current). This is so since any vector controller is essentially a fundamental current controller only. Hence the proposed model is applicable only to studies where sinusoidal supply conditions are assumed.
