Abstract :
We study numerically the nonlinear dynamics of a class-B laser with harmonically modulated losses. We analyze a transition where a gradual increase of size of the attractor with varying modulation amplitude may induce large radiation spikes. The calculated intensity distribution is shown to have a long tail, characteristic of systems displaying extreme events.
