Abstract :
A novel test instrument that enables a continuous supervision of test samples during the manufacturing process is described. Based on a personal computer, the instrument is able to concurrently count amplitude variations in the range of 2 to 24 dB with lengths between 0.5 and 300 μs. As an example, some results gained from a test series on different video tapes are given, showing less-known surface characteristics of new and used tapes
