Abstract
A study of the influence of a wind energy conversion system on power system dynamics is presented in this paper. The wind energy conversion system is interfaced into a power system through a power electronic system including a voltage source converter (VSC) at the grid side. This paper investigates the system performance during a power system disturbance; a voltage sag caused by a short circuit in the power system. It is shown that the voltage source converter may continue transferring the real power captured from the wind during the voltage sag and also perform the function of a STATCOM for reactive power compensation to support the system voltage, so that the system dynamic performance has been improved.
