Abstract :
In the European Community (EC) the number of paraplegic people is estimated to be about 360000, mainly due to car accidents affecting, particularly, the young population. Through an EC Concerted Action, the CALIES project was set up to realize an implantable electrical stimulator that is radio-frequency controlled and able to produce contraction of sublesional muscles. In this framework, the third generation of the walking machine, conceived to train the patient to deambulate and to simulate the different control strategies, is presented
