Abstract :
Integrated service control for packet-switched networks has been strongly demanded as the Internet society is moving toward multimedia world. Intelligent traffic management is required in a packet switch or a high-speed router when multiple classes of traffic are processed. This paper presents an efficient traffic control for multiplexing a plurity of packets streams with different grade of services. For delay sensitive streams, a statistical bandwidth requirement is claimed before they are multiplexed into an outgoing link. The proposed scheme will dynamically schedule the traffic and guarantees the claimed throughput in the outgoing link for each delay sensitive stream. When there is no packet arrival from delay sensitive streams, the bandwidth will be dynamically assigned to the best-effort streams for increasing the link utilization. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated via simulation. The result shows that the proposed method produces a lower delay and guaranteed throughput for delay sensitive streams and, in the mean time, assign the spare bandwidth to the remaining best-effort streams
