Consumer electronics as silicon engine

The present consumer electronics industry standards are mostly analog. Nowadays these analog based sets contain an increasing number of complex digital circuits to improve quality and add features. The innovation in consumer electronics is driven mainly by digital techniques. New consumer sets are based on digital standards and contain an increasing amount of embedded software. This paper discusses trends in complexity of integrated circuits for present and future consumer electronic integrated systems. The focus is on TV and video application. It is expected that consumer electronics will become a major driver for digital system ICs.
