Abstract :
To achieve the goals of EU, 20 % reduction of carbon dioxide, 20 % renewables and 20 % more efficient use of energy it´s necessary to smart when developing the infrastructure for electricity. This means that to meet the challenges ahead a smart grid will be needed. Enhancement the development of smart grid will also contribute to the competettivness of European Industry. To make this happen there is a need for research and development but also for incentives for deployment of new technology. There is also a need for cross-sectorial co-operation. Policymakers have a role to facilitate such co-operation as an example by supporting demonstration of smart grids wich is also important for the development of new products. There is also a need for a framework that gives consistent and long-term conditions for the development and deployment of a sustainable smart grid system.
