Title :
Conducting a multi-region transmission analysis
Author_Institution :
Xcel Energy Inc., Minneapolis, MN, USA
Abstract :
A discussion of the technical analysis and results (including both steady state/reliability and economic components) for a study spanning a broad portion of the country will be presented. This paper will include analysis of and commentary on the performance of three extra high voltage classes and their applicability for large-scale, long distance energy delivery. Finally, a discussion of the challenges in regional transmission development will be given that focuses on the multi-faceted requirements necessary for transmission development. Balancing local (state) interests with regional and inter-regional interests is difficult and is just one of the many reasons why transmission takes a long time to construct.
