  • Abstract
The surge in demand for renewable energy has seen growth in the sector expand in recent years. However, the North East in Britain, even with its strong engineering background, has not had a successful rate of growth. The paper will investigate this with a detailed analysis of skill deficiencies within the sector, integrating its findings into the Northumbria University curricula, particularly through electrical engineering education which can cover a wide range of renewable energy employment needs through its HND, degree and Masters programmes. The paper will show the latest survey conducted by Northumbria University. Based on this information, initial recommendations and modifications were made to cater for the renewable industrial needs. One teaching module in electrical engineering programme was evaluated and modified in line with these findings as an example.
