Abstract :
In Egypt, a comprehensive loss reduction plan has been initiated since the beginning of the nineteenth. The transmission (TR) and sub-transmission (STR) losses has been thoroughly studied and analyzed to develop an effective practical package of loss reduction measures. Based on actual measurements, the percentage energy losses of TR and STR networks have been reduced from 8.2% in 1992/1993 to 4.35 % in 2002/2003. However due to the absence of direct means, the associated reduction of the peak demand losses were not known. This paper presents a simple method which provides a practical approximation for realistic estimates of the associated percentage demand of peak losses from the available data: total energy, percentage energy losses, peak and minimum loads. The associated percentage of peak demand losses for the Egyptian TR & STR networks are calculated using the developed method and compared with the results obtained by applying published empirical formulae and the findings are satisfactory.
