Abstract :
The analysis of benefits gained from the application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to real-time supervision and control problems in computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) is considered. The value of AI in CIM is viewed as enhancing the benefits already achieved through the implementation of CIM systems. A hybrid technique that is an extension of the value analysis method of evaluating the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the application of conventional project deliverables is discussed. Results from a case study based on a value analysis of the benefits of applying AI techniques to CIM within a multinational project are outlined
