Abstract :
The basic design of CADANS (cardiology data network structure) involves an eight-pointed star hardware configuration. Each of the points represents a key-node computer located in one of the eight university cardiology departments. This key-node assembles data from different local sources and sends data to the central CADANS computer, which offers specialized data processing, such as complex statistics and other (more expensive) facilities for central use. A pilot network is currently under construction. In this network, studies will be carried out to test and integrate software utilities in a research toolkit and to test data communication and analysis within the network. The actual network will embrace approximately 35 workstations, all of them intelligent
