  • Abstract
A pulsed inductor is one of the key parts in Pulsed Power Supply (PPS). Suitable inductance can adjust many electric characteristics of the pulse current including the peak value, rise time, pulse width, and di/dt, so that it is more convenient for optimum design of PPS and the total efficiency of the electromagnetic launch system becomes higher. This paper studies a pulsed inductor of 10μH used in a compact 75kJ Pulsed Forming Unit (PFU). A coaxial structure is adopted instead of the classical solenoid structure to miniaturize the inductor. A mathematic model of the pulsed inductor with coaxial structure is established to calculate the magnetic flux density and electromagnetic force. In addition, a 2D simulation model of the inductor based on Ansoft Maxwell has been created to verify the former mathematic model. The simulation result indicates that the magnetic flux density on the inside of the turn at the center of the inductor is highest. And then, different connection mode and inter-turn voltage distribution of the inductor coil are analyzed. At last, a new sample pulsed inductor is produced, whose volume (1.98L) decreases to 56% of the former solenoid one. And the anti-shock performance of the inductor is tested. This paper provides some guidance to optimize the design of pulsed inductor.
