  • Abstract
    A compact, N-way power combiner is proposed for monolithic systems. The combiner accomplishes an N-way power combination on a planar substrate in just λ/4 length while simultaneously matching port impedances. This is made possible by a network of sub-λ/4 transmission line segments that combine to provide the necessary power combination and impedance and phase matching. To demonstrate this architecture, an 8-way compact combiner is fabricated at 2.4 GHz. Experimental results show a 0.08 dB insertion loss in a footprint that is only λ/8 by 3λ/8.
