Abstract :
This paper studies the transmission of stored MPEG video and voice over a wireless LAN. We first consider four lip synchronization schemes; two schemes interleave voice and video to form a single transport stream, and the others treat the two media as separate transport streams. In each category, one exerts synchronization control at the destination, while the other does not. In addition, we apply a dynamic resolution control of MPEG video to the two schemes with synchronization control. We have implemented those schemes on an ALTAIR wireless LAN. Comparison of the measured performance shows that heavily loaded networks need lip synchronization control and that the dynamic resolution control is effective
