Introduction to the special session on optoelectronic and photonic structures

Since its beginnings in early 1960s the rapidly changing area of Optoelectronic and Photonic Structures attracts ever growing interest of theorists, experimentalists and technologists. The improvements, concerning material and technological base, made it possible to design and construct more and more sophisticated structures and subsystems with unprecedented consequences in application fields as e.g. communication and computer technologies, sensorics, etc.
