Abstract :
Timing recovery in digital communication receiver typically requires the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) operating at the sampling rate of at least equal to the Nyquist rate. In high speed wireless communication system, such as the ultra-wideband (UWB) system, this limitation results in high frequency requirement and large power consumption. To decrease the frequency and the power consumption, symbol-rate timing recovery approach can be employed. However, it requires large amount of clock phases in the multiple clock generator for ADC sampling. In this paper, a symbol-rate timing recovery approach based on digital adaptive interpolation using least mean square (LMS) algorithm is proposed for UWB system. QPSK modulation and its corresponding complex symbol-rate timing error detector are considered. Simulation results show that, given the same amount of clock phases in the multiple clock generator, the residual timing error is decreased significantly using the proposed approach.
