Abstract
The technical feasibility of applying a fiber optic subcarrier multiplexing transport scheme is discussed. The scheme has the promising possibility of flexibly and economically accommodating various kinds of services such as multichannel TV distribution, POTS, narrowband ISDN, and future high-definition TV (HDTV) distribution in the broadband subscriber networks. Approaches to system architecture are presented, and technical issues of fiber optic digitally modulated subcarrier multiplexing (especially employing multilevel QAM) are discussed with emphasis on the HDTV and the hybrid HDTV and multichannel 4-MHz TV signal transport
