Abstract
This paper proposes a combined MAC and ARQ protocol for a packet switched wireless network. A block reservation MAC protocol known as BRTDMA has been developed based on the advanced TDMA architecture which offers reservation to both voice and data traffic. To reliably transmit voice and data packets using the BRTDMA MAC protocol an ARQ technique is proposed for data packet transmission. The ARQ algorithm presented in this paper has been specifically developed for the block reservation protocol. The proposed retransmission protocol minimizes signalling overhead and increases the channel throughput in a co-channel interference limited environment. Simulation results are presented to show the performance of the protocols
