Abstract
As the era of pervasive computing dawns, smart sensors and wireless sensor networks (WSN) are the main candidates to create a smart world where the things are able to interact to the Internet. This paper introduces a smart sensor monitoring system which is composed of a smartphone application, a data collection device, and smart sensors. Basically, the smart sensor monitoring system gets sensed data from smart sensors via the data collection device. To get sensed data, this paper proposes an enhanced fast sensor collection algorithm. Smart sensors in the proposed method learn their communication and collisions to adjust their schedule to gather sensor data from smart sensors, and find out suitable time to send sensor data. The proposed method also uses a wake-up signal to extend the lifetime of the smart sensor. In addition, this paper deals with the design and implementation of the smart sensor monitoring system, and the performance evaluation to verify the superiority of the proposed method. The proposed method is able to read sensor data 8% faster than the traditional approach.
