Abstract
The issues involved in implementing databases in hard real-time systems are investigated. The requirements of real-time databases are examined, and two new correctness measures, external consistency and temporal consistency, are proposed. An approach to defining transaction periods so that databases can guarantee the desired real-time performance is studied
