Abstract
It is shown that the capacity of a single, isolated, multiple transmit and receive antenna array link, with given interference, is maximized by transmitting an independent data stream from each antenna for a quasistatic and flat Rayleigh fading channel with independent fading coefficients for each path. However, if such links mutually interfere, in some cases the overall system capacity can be increased by transmitting fewer streams
