Abstract :
Bangladesh has the fastest growing rate of solar photovoltaic installation. Our main focus is on solar home system (SHS) and small solar home system (SSHS). These programs ensure access to clean electricity for the energy starved off-grid rural areas of Bangladesh and supplement the Government´s vision of ensuring `Access to Electricity for All´ by 2021. But rural markets/bazaar need energy and their demand for electricity is not less than household demand. Our piloting work in three districts (Faridpur, Gaibandha and Nilphamari) tries to solve their need in a cost effective way that also creates local power entrepreneurships. Solar PV based mini-grid projects are installed in remote areas of the country where possibility of grid expansion is remote in near future. These projects provide grid quality electricity to households and small commercial users and thereby encourage commercial activities in the project areas.
