Abstract
The author discusses the initiative of ERCOT to enable the demand response participation of its load resources in its ancillary services market. Load resources (formerly known as loads acting as a resource, or LaaRs) have been eligible to provide ancillary services in ERCOT since the restructuring of the market in 2001. The paper gives an overview of ERCOT and its load resources as well as the challenges of this scheme.
