Abstract :
The paper summarises developments in public transport informatics. It clearly has the potential to offer new solutions to the transport problems we face. However, meeting the potential of ATT depends on industry and policy motors choosing the most appropriate technologies and the best ways in which to implement and market them. The progress from research and development to full implementation is often lengthy and complex involving political commitment, social acceptance, good organisational, planning and building co-operation between the public and private sectors. It is therefore important to assess the factors contributing to the potential growth or stagnation of information systems to be able to advance strategies in the future to maximise their benefits
