Abstract
SEMURVAL, the bus network operator of Valenciennes near the Belgian border in France has installed and operated a bus operations and management system. Unlike the deregulated environment of the UK, SEMURVAL operates under the authority of the Intercommunal Syndicate for Urban Transportation representing all the municipalities in the region around Valenciennes. The bus operations and management system assures the real time processing of data related to monitoring the progress of the bus, traffic regulation, management of the working schedule of drivers and the day-to-day maintenance of vehicles. The system also supports the preparation of the daily operations programme, data storage and management statistics
