Abstract :
Presents a spreadsheet based system and the methods behind it as motivated by the need for automated assistance for university exam and course scheduling. The program is currently at the prototype stage with the algorithms running quickly and efficiently giving often optimal solutions to small test problems. Research is now directed toward developing further algorithms and to further widen the scope of the spreadsheet, possibly using probabilistic search techniques to optimize several criteria relative to each other, criteria which may be chosen by the scheduler
