Abstract :
Partial discharge characteristics in XLPE used for the insulation of medium voltage power cables have been investigated by measuring partial discharge signal using piezoelectric ultrasonic detector. PD characteristics of commercial XLPEs were different sample to sample. PD activities were much more suppressed in the tree-retardant XLPEs than in the natural XLPEs. Details of results were described and their possible causes were discussed
