Abstract
The modification of existing digital radio systems to include network node interface (NNI) compatibility is addressed. The design concepts necessary to create a cost-effective NNI digital radio network at 52 or 156 Mb/s interface are examined. The factors controlling equipment selection, forward error correction usage, interface bit rates, and interface functions are discussed
